Local
fishing opportunities must be divided into two categories: inland
and North Channel. Inland lakes are numerous and usually easily
accessible by vehicle. Speckle trout are the preferred species but
inland lakes also have lake trout, walleye, pike, perch, bass and other
panfish. Local resorts cater to visitors with equipment and
advice.
The Town of
Bruce Mines sits on the shores of the North Channel. This open area of
water offers wide spaces to explore and many fishing opportunities
secluded from the crowded conditions often experienced in other
waters. Many days have been spent fishing with only seeing distant
wakes of passing |

| boats. Pink
salmon, king salmon, coho salmon, lake trout, walleye, jumbo perch,
whitefish, northern pike, bass and other panfish await the angler who is
willing to seek them out.
This is an
under-utilized fishery. Because of the openness of the Channel,
small boats must use caution and keep a close eye on the weather.
Many sheltered areas can be used to wait out weather or provide break
areas to get out and stretch if needed. Islands have beaches and
can be used to camp. Be sure to check maps for crown lands as some
lands are privately owned and must be respected. This is an area
that will reward the angler and boater alike. |
