The health care of Bruce Mines and Area, as in Ontario and the rest of Canada, is primarily publicly funded. Residents may access primary health care through the Central Algoma Health Centre, which houses the offices of two doctors, a chiropractic clinic and a foot specialist. Emergency health care is available through the Thessalon Hospital. Non-publicly funded alternative health care (e.g., naturopathy) is available in Sault Ste. Marie (45 minutes drive away). Long-term, geriatric and palliative nursing care is provided by Algoma Manor in Thessalon. For seniors who need minimal to moderate support with their daily living activities, Light Haven Christian Home is a retirement home located in Bruce Mines. In addition to these health services, a number of social services are also provided to the community such as Meals on Wheels and Algoma Child and Youth Services. |

Light Haven Christian Home Inc.38 Desbarats Street Bruce Mines, Ontario P0R 1C0 Telephone: (705) 785-9975 A retirement home, Light Haven was built entirely through volunteer labour and donations for the convenience of seniors who desire to reside in a Christian environment. Opened in 1984, our purpose is to provide for the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of our residents. The home is not government financed and currently has 23 bedrooms with all kitchen and housekeeping services provided. |

Meals on Wheels135 Dawson Street Thessalon, Ontario P0R 1L0 Telephone: (705) 842-2840 ex.211 The Meals-on-Wheels program provides fresh, hot food, prepared in the kitchen of Algoma Manor to help homebound individuals maintain their independence. Meals are delivered Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the lunchtime hours by volunteer drivers directly to clients' homes.
