Ernie Strum will be honored Friday night as Bruce Mines Citizen of The Year, at an event sponsored every year by the Bruce Mines Chamber of Commerce to honour those people who have voluntarily contributed to the well being of the town over the years.

The dinner will be held at the Bruce Mines Community Hall starting at 6.30 p. m. Tickets can be purchased at the M and J Hair Boutique, the Pizza Lady, Foster Freshmart and Peterson's Law Firm.

Ernie is one of the original charter members of the Bruce Mines and District Lions Club for the past 30 years. He is a past town councilor and served eight years as mayor. He is a past member of the Bruce Mines Volunteer Fire Department, past member and past president of the Bruce Mines Chamber of Commerce, past director with the Ontario March of Dimes, past director of the Children's Aid Society, past director of the Algoma Health Unit, past director of Algoma District Social and Family Services and past director with Huron Lodge.

The public is urged to come out and enjoy an enjoyable evening while honouring one of the town's long-time citizens.

The chamber has honoured its citizens in this manner since 1985 and Friday's event is held as an opportunity for the public to thank the recipient of the Citizen of The Year Award for their years of volunteering and serving for the benefit of the community and its residents.
